Speaking at Will of Steel awards, CJI Chandrachud said, "One of the important effects of institutionalising courts is that it enhances transparency and accountability.
2- Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that whether our profession will flourish or self-destruct will depend on whether we maintain our integrity or not. CJI said that we all sleep with our conscience. You can fool the whole world but you cannot fool your conscience. It keeps asking questions every night.Integrity is not erased by a storm, it is erased by the small concessions made by lawyers and judges and the compromises made with their integrity.Don't look at collegium today because it has to be lost in the talent available at the Bar. Have to choose from. You have to see the condition of our society 20-30 years ago. The judges who are entering the higher judiciary today are members of the Bar of 20-25 years ago.
3- Retired judge of the Supreme Court of India Markandey Katju has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan. In his letter he has also congratulated the Chief Justice of Pakistan, apart from this he has also given some suggestions... ....It is your duty to immediately release these 10,000 people from jail, provide them with adequate compensation and give appropriate punishment to the officials responsible for this outrage. (2) It is your duty to implement the Constitution of Pakistan, because you have taken an oath to uphold it.
4 - The troubles of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan may increase. Anti-Imran Justice Qazi Faiz Isa took oath as the 29th Chief Justice of Pakistan on Sunday, 17 September 2023. Chief Justice Isa will remain in office for 13 months. In 2019, when Imran Khan was the Prime Minister, Justice Isa and his wife Sarina Isa were accused of corruption. Sarina was also arrested.
Imran Khan was angry with Isa for not giving decisions as per his wish and wanted to send him to jail, however he failed. Chief Justice Isa is considered close to the Sharif brothers, Nawaz and Shehbaz. It is being speculated that Isa is not going to adopt a soft attitude on the bail application of Imran at this time. Whereas Sharif brothers may get relief in corruption cases.
5 - Pakistan's self-exiled former PM Nawaz Sharif has said that his country is asking for money from the world while India has reached the moon and is hosting the G20. He blamed former generals and judges for the economic crisis in Pakistan. Pakistan's economy has declined rapidly. Inflation is sky high there. Sharif said, today the Prime Minister of Pakistan goes to the country and abroad begging for money, while India has reached the moon. Why Pakistan could not achieve what India achieved? Who is responsible for it?' Sharif was addressing leaders of his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Lahore via video link from London on Monday evening.

Book- The Court at War ▶️
Facts and Realities
Book: The Court at War: Inside the Supreme Court During World War II
Author: Cliff Sloan
Topic: The civil rights and civil liberties cases taken up by the U.S. Supreme Court during World War II and the influence that FDR had on the justices.
Summary:
Georgetown University law professor Cliff Sloan's book The Court at War provides a fascinating and nuanced account of the Supreme Court's role during World War II. Sloan argues that FDR's influence on the Court was significant, but that it was also more complex and nuanced than has often been portrayed.
FDR was deeply frustrated by the Court's conservative majority, which had struck down many of his New Deal programs in the 1930s. In 1937, he proposed a controversial "court-packing" plan that would have expanded the size of the Court and allowed him to appoint additional justices. The plan was ultimately defeated, but it sent a clear message to the Court that FDR was willing to challenge its authority.
During World War II, the Court faced a number of difficult cases involving civil rights and civil liberties. In some cases, the Court upheld the government's wartime powers, even when these powers infringed on individual rights. For example, in the case of Korematsu v. United States, the Court upheld the internment of Japanese Americans during the war. In other cases, the Court struck down government actions that it found to be unconstitutional. For example, in the case of Ex parte Endo, the Court overturned the internment of Japanese Americans who had been determined to be loyal to the United States.
Sloan argues that FDR's influence on the Court was a factor in both of these types of cases. On the one hand, FDR's willingness to challenge the Court's authority made the justices more cautious about striking down government actions during the war. On the other hand, FDR's commitment to civil rights and civil liberties also influenced the Court's decisions in some cases. For example, Sloan argues that FDR's support for Japanese Americans played a role in the Court's decision to overturn the internment of loyal Japanese Americans in Ex parte Endo.
Ovrall, Sloan's book provides a valuable and insightful look at the Supreme Court's role during World War II. He shows that FDR's influence on the Court was significant, but that it was also more complex and nuanced than has often been portrayed.
My thoughts:
Sloan's book is a timely and important read, given the current political climate in the United States. The book raises important questions about the balance between civil rights and civil liberties during times of war. It also reminds us of the importance of an independent judiciary to protect the rights of all Americans.

four factors that determine a superpower—military might, economic might, administrative capacity and moral purpose.
.................And despite failing on all four parameters, it’s likely your nationalist friend will text you again about India becoming the next superpower. Ask him, it’s usually a him, if he wants to play a game where we rate all countries on these four factors and rank them in descending order. It’s fun to play on group chat.
